Google Ads is the fastest way for an Egyptian business to appear in front of people already looking for what it sells — and one of the fastest ways to waste money if the setup is wrong. This guide covers the whole system, with links to the detail on each part.

What you are actually buying
Not positions. Not clicks. You are buying the attention of someone at a specific moment of intent. That framing decides everything else: which keywords are worth money, what the landing page must do, and which metric tells you whether it worked.
Getting this wrong is expensive, which is why it sits at the centre of our managed Google Ads service.
Campaign types, briefly
- Search. Text ads against what people type. Highest intent, and where most Egyptian businesses should start.
- Performance Max. Automated placement across Google’s networks. Powerful with good conversion data, wasteful without it.
- Display and YouTube. Reach and remarketing rather than immediate intent. Useful once search is working, rarely the right first step.
- Shopping. For e-commerce with a product feed. Often the most efficient channel for online stores.
The setup that has to exist before launch
This is where most accounts are lost before they start:
- Conversion tracking. Calls, WhatsApp taps, form submissions and purchases, each defined separately, each with a value. Without this, Google optimises toward clicks — and buys you the cheapest, least valuable ones it can find.
- Geographic targeting, corrected. Google’s default includes people merely interested in your area. With Egypt’s internal migration and diaspora, that default spends real money on people who will never visit you.
- Negative keywords from day one. Broad match without negatives is an open tap.
- A landing page that matches the ad. Sending every ad to the homepage is the most common and most expensive shortcut in Egyptian accounts.
Arabic and English are two accounts
They need separate campaigns or at minimum separate ad groups: different keywords, different ad copy, different competitive dynamics. Merged, one language subsidises the other and the reporting cannot tell you which. This is one of the few structural decisions that is difficult to fix later without losing history.
Budget: how to think about it
The wrong question is “how much should I spend?” The right one is “what is a customer worth to me, and what can I therefore afford to pay for one?” Work backwards: customer value, your closing rate on enquiries, and you have the maximum sensible cost per enquiry. A campaign that comes in under it can scale; one that does not should be fixed or stopped, not fed.
Start small enough to learn and long enough to gather data — a fortnight of real spend teaches more than a month of a budget too small to leave the auction. Practical detail in the Google Ads beginners guide.
Where the money actually leaks
- No conversion tracking, so optimisation is aimed at the wrong thing.
- Broad match with a thin negative list, buying loosely related searches.
- Location settings never revisited after launch.
- Ads pointing at a page that changed, or got slower, or lost its form.
- Bidding on your own brand name when nobody else is — occasionally worth it defensively, often just paying for traffic you already had.
- Rebuilding the account every few weeks, so smart bidding never accumulates enough data to work.

Google Ads or social ads?
Search captures existing demand; social creates it. For high-intent services people actively look for, search usually wins first. For visual and impulse categories, social usually wins first. Most established businesses eventually run both. The comparison is in Google Ads vs Facebook Ads in Egypt.
What to measure
Cost per acquired customer, and whether it sits comfortably below customer value. Impressions and click-through rate explain movement in that number; they are not substitutes for it.
If you are hiring help
Read what determines the cost of running Google Ads first — particularly the section on account ownership, which is the single most common way businesses get trapped. Our approach is described in the Google Ads service.
Frequently Asked Questions
What has to be set up before launching a Google Ads campaign in Egypt?
Conversion tracking for calls, WhatsApp taps, form submissions and purchases, each defined separately and each with a value. Geographic targeting corrected, because Google’s default includes people merely interested in your area. Negative keywords from day one, and a landing page that matches the ad instead of sending every click to the homepage.
Should Arabic and English campaigns run in the same structure?
They need separate campaigns, or at minimum separate ad groups: different keywords, different ad copy, different competitive dynamics. Merged, one language subsidises the other and the reporting cannot tell you which. This is one of the few structural decisions that is difficult to fix later without losing history.

Start small enough to learn and long enough to gather data, because a fortnight of real spend teaches more than a month of a budget too small to leave the auction.
Which campaign type should an Egyptian business start with?
Search, in most cases, because it carries the highest intent: you are buying the attention of someone at a specific moment of intent. Performance Max is powerful with good conversion data and wasteful without it, Display and YouTube are for reach and remarketing once search is working, and Shopping suits e-commerce with a product feed.
Where does Google Ads money actually leak?
No conversion tracking, so optimisation is aimed at the wrong thing. Broad match with a thin negative list, location settings never revisited after launch, and ads pointing at a page that changed or got slower or lost its form. Rebuilding the account every few weeks also stops smart bidding from ever accumulating enough data to work.
